ABOUT US:

We are looking for people who want to shape the future with us – as part of SPRIND, the Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations, which may carry the title of a government agency but thinks and operates like a start-up. Our goal is to create new breakthrough innovations from Germany. That means products, services and systems that make all of our lives noticeably and sustainably better. To do this, we connect new thinkers from science and business, people with outstanding ideas, special expertise and passion. Within the EUDI Wallet project, which SPRIND is implementing on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Digitalization and State Modernization (BMDS), we are developing Germany’s national EUDI wallet as well as a comprehensive EUDI Wallet ecosystem. Digital credentials are a key building block for a high-performing digital society, a competitive economy, and a modern state. The EUDI wallet provides people with a secure, interoperable, and user-centric solution, enabling them to manage both public and private credentials – from ID cards to certificates and membership cards. In the medium term, the project will transition into a newly established, government-owned entity that will take over responsibility for the EUDI ecosystem and ensure the platform’s ongoing development and operation.

Your Role:

Join a multidisciplinary team shaping the future of secure and user-centric digital identity across Europe. As Identity Architect, you will define and maintain the architecture for identity-related components in the EUDI Wallet ecosystem, ensuring compliance with eIDAS 2.0 and related standards while enabling interoperability, scalability, and strong privacy protections. You will serve as the bridge between conceptual frameworks, technical implementation, and stakeholder needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • With a deep technical knowledge, be the primary point of contact for our implementation partners developing individual subproducts of the German EUDI Ecosystem. Your task is to guide them, to develop solutions collaboratively between the implementation partners and teams within the project, to define priorities, and to drive decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, legal experts, and policy stakeholders, to ensure architectural decisions meet technical, regulatory, and user experience requirements.
  • Act as a contact for technical identity-related questions from developers, third parties (including public administration), and the broader EUDI Wallet technical community.

What We’re Looking For:

  • In-depth expertise in the technical standards used in the EUDI Wallet (such as the OpenID for Verifiable Credentials (OID4VC) protocol family and credential formats (such as SD-JWT and mdoc).
  • Proven track record in architecting and implementing large-scale identity systems in government, financial services, or other high-security environments.
  • Experience with distributed and federated identity systems and integrating them into existing enterprise or public sector infrastructures.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into clear, actionable architecture designs.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (our company language), with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Identity Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Bonus Skills:

  • German language skills.
  • Familiarity with public key infrastructures (PKI), certificate authorities (CA), trust frameworks, and verifiable credential ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of EU regulations in digital identity, trust services, and data protection.

What We Offer:

  • A chance to shape one of Germany’s most important digital public infrastructures
  • A forward-thinking, mission-driven work culture at the intersection of science, administration, and innovation
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options
  • Attractive compensation based on the responsibility of the position
  • Access to conferences, team events and a supportive work culture.
