We are looking for people who want to shape the future with us—as part of SPRIND, which may be officially known as the Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations, but thinks like a startup.
Our goal is to support groundbreaking ideas that tangibly and sustainably improve our lives. To this end, we bring together innovative thinkers from science, business, and society—people with outstanding ideas, exceptional expertise, and genuine passion.
We are looking for venture builders with entrepreneurial grit and deep roots in the life sciences and biotech sectors—people who aren’t afraid to take on the challenge of turning a scientific breakthrough into an investable company, who take ownership, can handle hard facts, and set their egos aside for the greater good.
Our mission for the future:
- Venture Builder – Developing and actively supporting our ventures as they validate key product, market, and regulatory assumptions, through to the design of their business models, equity structures, and growth and scaling strategies.
- Investor & Funding Advisor – Preparing start-ups for investor readiness and actively supporting fundraising rounds – from the pitch story and data room, through the structuring of investment models with SPRIND and co-investors, to providing support during negotiations with VCs, family offices and strategic partners.
- Deep-Tech Translator – Evaluating scientific breakthroughs in the life sciences and biotechnology sectors, assessing technology readiness levels, intellectual property rights and regulatory hurdles, and translating complex scientific findings into viable product and market hypotheses for investors, industry partners and government departments.
- Ecosystem hub – actively connecting with the European life sciences and biotech community, including founders, venture capitalists, industry partners, research institutions and policy-makers; helping to shape SPRIND Challenges and validation projects; and continuously monitoring global tech and investment trends for our portfolio.
Your profile:
- Deep Tech & Life Sciences background – a completed degree (Master’s, PhD) in the life sciences, biotechnology, medicine, pharmacy, bioinformatics or a related scientific field; strong understanding of technology, the ability to accurately assess technology readiness levels (TRL), and proven experience in translating scientific research into products and business models. In particular, experience with regulatory requirements, clinical validation, long development cycles and partnerships with pharmaceutical companies is of particular importance.
- Venture experience – several years’ experience as a founder, in venture building, within technology transfer units, at a venture capital fund or in a top-tier consultancy environment; confident in conducting market, competitive and regulatory assessments, as well as in business modelling, investment structures, fundraising and investor readiness.
- Personal competence & strong execution skills – a high sense of ownership and a hands-on approach, the ability to make decisions in the face of uncertainty and risk, strong resilience and frustration tolerance; the courage to address uncomfortable facts head-on, a systemic mindset with regard to the overall portfolio, and a willingness to put one’s own ego aside for the benefit of the portfolio companies. Fluency in German and English.
The World at SPRIND:
- A mission with economic, social, and environmental returns – make a direct contribution to innovations that disrupt markets, and see firsthand how your analyses lead to real change
- A unique ecosystem – access to exclusive databases, policy-makers and global networks
- The appeal of innovation – working within flexible structures and an open feedback culture
- Network reach – networking at tech conferences, demo days, and similar events
- Work-Life 2.0 – Remote work, modern office spaces, opportunities to grow through projects and tasks, discounted JobTicket or leisure benefits
- Salary – Competitive remuneration based on the public sector collective agreement (TVöD Bund); depending on existing qualifications, classification up to pay grade 14
