ABOUT US:

We are looking for people who want to shape the future of Digital Identity with us. As part of SPRIND, an organization that is called the Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations and works as a start-up. Our goal is to create new breakthrough innovations from Germany. That means products, services and systems that make all our lives noticeably and sustainably better. To do this, we connect new thinkers from science and business, people with outstanding ideas, special expertise and passion. In the EUDI Wallet project, which SPRIND is carrying out on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Digitalization and State Modernization (BMDS), we develop and implement the German EUDI Wallet ecosystem including the national EUDI Wallet in an inter-disciplinary, agile, and international team. Representatives of organized civil society, business associations and administration as well as experts from academia are involved in a public consultation process that accompanies the project.

YOUR ROLE:

Join a multidisciplinary team shaping the future of secure and user-centric digital identity across Europe. As Identity Architect, you will define and maintain the architecture for identity-related components in the EUDI Wallet ecosystem, ensuring compliance with eIDAS 2.0 and related standards while enabling interoperability, scalability, and strong privacy protections. You will serve as the bridge between conceptual frameworks, technical implementation, and stakeholder needs.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to the identity architecture design for the EUDI Wallet ecosystem, covering the German EUDI Wallet, PID Provider, Ecosystem Management Portal, and related trust services.Develop, maintain, and continuously refine clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation for the EUDI Wallet infrastructure—including white papers, technical specifications, FAQs, and integration guides.
  • Define and maintain architecture blueprints, reference models, and technical specifications for identity flows, credential issuance, and verification.Engage closely with ecosystem stakeholders to identify pain points, perform root cause analyses, and co-create effective, scalable solutions.
  • In-depth expertise in the technical standards used in the EUDI Wallet (such as the OpenID for Verifiable Credentials (OID4VC) protocol family and credential formats (such as SD-JWT and mdoc).Drive the continuous optimization of onboarding processes and tools by identifying inefficiencies and implementing improvements to support sustainable ecosystem growth.
  • Integrate privacy-by-design and security-by-design principles into the architecture, in close collaboration with security/privacy and engineering teams.
  • Act as one of the primary contacts for technical identity-related questions from developers, relying parties, and the broader EUDI Wallet technical community.
  • Support onboarding of ecosystem participants by providing architectural guidance, best practices, and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including engineers, product managers, legal experts, and policy stakeholders—to ensure architectural decisions meet technical, regulatory, and user experience requirements.
  • Provide expert feedback for the rollout of the EUDI Wallet infrastructure.
  • Track emerging identity technologies and regulatory developments, recommending relevant innovations for ecosystem adoption.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Identity Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven track record in architecting and implementing large-scale identity systems in government, financial services, or other high-security environments.
  • Deep understanding of digital identity standards and protocols (OID4VC, SD-JWT, mdoc, etc.).
  • Familiarity with public key infrastructures (PKI), certificate authorities (CA), trust frameworks, and verifiable credential ecosystems.
  • Experience with distributed and federated identity systems and integrating them into existing enterprise or public sector infrastructures.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into clear, actionable architecture designs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
